University mobility parks

There are a number of dedicated mobility car parks across the Dunedin campus. These parks are available for University of Otago mobility parking permit holders only and administered by the Disability Information and Support Office.

Permits are available to students with a demonstrated need and applicants will be asked to provide current documentation from a relevant professional supporting the need for parking, or their current CCS operation mobility card. In exceptional circumstances, staff with a temporary impairment may be able to access this service.

To obtain a permit please contact the Disability Information and Support Office at disabilities@otago.ac.nz or telephone 64 3 479 8235.

To see where the nearest University mobility park to you may be, please use the following maps.

Please be aware that University mobility parks differ from the Dunedin City Council (DCC) mobility parks. DCC mobility parks require the user to display a current CCS mobility card and are signposted with the standard blue mobility sign. University mobility spaces are signposted with University branded signage.

A CCS Operational Mobility Card is not sufficient to use the University mobility car parks and any vehicles parking in University mobility parks not displaying a valid University mobility parking permit may be removed at the owner's expense.

Mobility parking for university staff

Staff with permanent mobility impairments can lease a university car park at the normal rate and can apply via the Parking application form. Generally, priority will be given over others on the waiting list if an applicant can provide documentation from a relevant professional supporting the need for parking and if the applicant meets the following requirements

  • Unable to walk and rely on a wheelchair for mobility, or
  • Rely on mobility devices (e.g. crutches, walking sticks, walking frames), or
  • Unable to walk more than 200 meters unassisted because of the nature or severity the impairment

To ensure confidentiality is maintained, please email all supporting documentation to ohn@otago.ac.nz so that it can be reviewed by the Occupational Health Nurse in Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Staff with temporary mobility impairments are welcome to contact the Parking Coordinator at parking@otago.ac.nz or on +64 3 479 8014 to see if we can help in any way.

Campus hopping

The Disability Information and Support Office run a "Campus Hopping" scheme for university staff with mobility impairments. The scheme allows staff to make use of university mobility parks across the Dunedin campus for short-term use when conducting university business, making it easier for staff with mobility impairments to attend meetings, lectures and seminars.

For more information or to apply for a Campus Hopping permit please contact the Disability Information and Support Office at disabilities@otago.ac.nz or telephone +64 3 479 8235.

Dunedin City Council mobility parks

There are also a number of Dunedin City Council mobility parks located in the streets around the Dunedin campus. For information on the DCC's mobility parking scheme and the whereabouts of these parks please view the Dunedin City Council Mobility Parking Scheme website.
