Carl Smith Medal Lecture and Inaugural Professorial Lecture
In a rare event, Professor Jemma Geoghegan will give the Carl Smith Medal Lecture AND her Inaugural Professorial Lecture together.
The Carl Smith Research medal recognises outstanding research performance of early career staff. Jemma was appointed the Webster Family Chair in Viral Pathogenesis in September this year.
Jemma is an evolutionary virologist with a strong research focus on emerging infectious disease. Her research focuses on determining the fundamental patterns and processes of viral evolution, ecology and emergence. She uses metagenomics to reveal the diversity, structure and evolution of the virosphere; examining the evolution of major viral infections, including SARS-CoV-2; and developing new analytical and computational approaches to analyse aspects of virus evolution.
