Studying in Common Room

Study is the main reason residents come to Otago and live in a College. At Aquinas, different programmes and events are run to help you with your studies, transition you to tertiary study, and to give you the opportunity to interact with academic staff.

Tutorials

Aquinas Tutorial

Tutorials are run in the evenings at the College and these are run by mostly past-residents who have achieved excellent grades in the papers.

The tutorials are not compulsory, but if you want to succeed in your studies it is a good idea to attend the tutorials and use it as a chance to ask questions.

In addition to Aquinas tutorials, there are tutorials on Campus for most 100-level papers. Also, for papers taken by a smaller number of residents, we work with other Colleges to provide shared tutorials.

Academic support

Aquinas staff help students set goals for their study and support residents individually to achieve those goals. Staff work with students to help them obtain the support they need, including helping students apply for special consideration where this is necessary.

They also organise sessions for all students on useful study skills and habits. Additionally, at the start of each semester we also have course advising staff visit the College to provide advice to residents about the options for changing what they are studying.
