There are four one-year postgraduate degrees offered by the Department of Biochemistry:
- Bachelor of Science with Honours (BSc(Hons))
- Postgraduate Diploma in Science (PGDipSci)
- Bachelor of Applied Science with Honours in Molecular Biotechnology (BAppSc(Hons))
- Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences with Honours in the Molecular Basis of Health and Disease (BBiomedSc(Hons))
The choice of degree depends on a student's undergraduate history, interests and what the student intends to eventually use the degree for.
All courses except BBiomedSc(Hons) require students to complete four coursework papers, and students are each given a different research project to work on over the year, under the mentorship of an academic staff member. The results of the research are written up as a dissertation.
Students with high marks (A average) in a BSc(Hons) degree can qualify for a scholarship and immediate entry to the PhD programme.
Coursework papers:
- BIOC 461 Research Design and Analysis in Biochemistry
- BIOC 462 Molecular Biology
- BIOC 463 Contemporary Technologies in Biochemistry
- BIOC 464 Applied Biochemistry
