Professor Miguel Quiñones-Mateu, of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, has been appointed as member of the new Global Partnerships and Advocacy Committee (GPAC) of the American Society for Virology.
His appointment is for a three-year term and will be complementing his current presence as a member of the Executive Committee of the Australasian Virology Society.
These committees have members from all over the globe and so Professor Quiñones-Mateu plans to use his appointment to strengthen the partnership between the Australasian Virology Society and the American Society for Virology.
“As a new member of the GPAC of the American Society for Virology, of which I have been a member since the early 2000s. I'm in charge of representing the Pacific region and establishing a partnership with the Australasian Virology Society,” Professor Quiñones-Mateu says.
“The goal of GPAC is to strengthen the global virology community through collaborations and outreach and to use our combined voices to educate the public on the role of viruses in disease and health,” Professor Quiñones-Mateu says.
“My hope is that we advocate for strong science policy and I look forward to working with my fellow committee members and am grateful for their partnership.”
