Ella Silk (Ngāti Kahu and Ngāpuhi)

Ella Silk thumbElla plans to use a range of molecular, biochemical and bioinformatic approaches in her postgraduate research to help combat the negative effects PSA causes the kiwifruit industry.

“Microbiology is involved in just about every research and work field imaginable and there is a prevalent need for Māori microbiologists in research due to their broad distribution,” Ella says.

“Providing different perspectives on topics is extremely important in shaping research projects and designs, especially within New Zealand, where kotahitanga has been widely demonstrated.”

Our School has built an international reputation as a centre for award-winning research throughout the fields of biomedical science. Our Academic staff receive significant amounts of funding through successful grant applications, and students are always involved in these research projects.

We provide a world-class teaching environment where students gain both theoretical and practical skills that allow them to succeed in their chosen discipline. These skills give students the ability to think critically and analytically in many different areas. With a substantial number of international students and staff, BMS is truly part of the international research and teaching community.
