Aims of the Canterbury Comprehensive Cancer Centre

  • provision of a single regional entity with a focus on all clinical, research and allied cancer care activities, as distinct from other health care.
  • promotion of closer working relationships with primary care teams, to facilitate referrals into secondary care, but to also increasingly transfer care back into the community.
  • increased collaborations between governmental services as well as non-governmental organizations and the community.
  • promotion of appropriate services for particular groups, eg. Adolescent/Young adult, older persons, Māori, Pacific peoples.
  • strengthen relevant translational cancer research in the region.
  • optimisation of the utilization of our personnel and physical resources.
  • contribution to the redevelopment of the DHB cancer services, and the University of Otago Christchurch campus, to achieve better integrated cancer care and support facilities, and enhance opportunities for quality cancer research.
