Our Strategy and Planning team – led by the University's strategic architect – provides expertise, design standards, the Campus Master Plan, dealings with councils, transport and parking planning, archaeology and heritage approvals, and engineering advice (electrical, mechanical, hydraulics).
Our Capital Projects team of project managers leads the establishment of project design teams, the procurement of building contractors and the delivery of construction projects.
From our director down, we all strive to support the University's strategic goals, by enabling excellence in research, excellence in teaching, outstanding student experiences, outstanding campus environments and sustaining capability.
Projects
History
Our division was established in April 2017, as the number of major building projects ramped up. Until then, building projects were overseen by the University's Property Services Division.
Significant projects completed by Property Services included:
- The $46 million University Plaza One Building - housing recreation facilities for Unipol, new teaching spaces and offices for Foundation Studies, and the popular Plaza Café.
- The $6 million Otago University Childcare Association's collection of five childcare centres collectively known as Te Pa, which involved building new facilities while retaining and upgrading five villa frontages to maintain the heritage streetscape in Castle Street.
- The purchase and opening of the 15th University residential college - Te Rangi Hiroa, complete with en-suite bathrooms, cinema and tutorial space.
- The Marsh Study Centre - a community-based centre in the heart of the student residential area, that contains a 225 seat study area, social space and a café.
