Aiggan was born and raised in Ethiopia. With a passion for academia and research, Aiggan ventured across different African countries, serving as a lecturer and researcher, gaining a deep understanding of the continent's diverse public health challenges. His educational journey began with an undergraduate degree in Public Health. Building upon that knowledge, He pursued a Master of Public Health with a specialization in Occupational and Environmental Health. Currently, he is a PhD student under joint supervision between the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine and CSAFE. Alongside his academic pursuits, Aiggan enjoys the rhythms of Ethio-Jazz and Reggae.

Research

Aiggan’s research addresses key questions related to workplace earthquake-related injury risk management, available policies, and guidelines, as well as barriers, and facilitators to implementation as part of Te Hiranga Rū QuakeCoRE’s research program disciplinary theme 4. The significance of this study lies in its potential to reduce work-related injuries during earthquakes, thereby safeguarding the health and well-being of employees and bystanders. Ultimately, this study aims to inform policies and practices that enhance earthquake resilience at the workplace level, contributing to a safer and more resilient nation.
