Rajan Ghosh2 (160)

Rajan is a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Sustainability under the School of Geography with an award of University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship. He has a strong academic background in Migration, Geography and Environment with a Master's thesis focusing on "Environmental Migration in Bangladesh". In addition, he has more than nine (9) years of professional experience including 6 years of tertiary level teaching and research around disaster and/or environmental management.

Rajan's research interests are climate/environment-induced migration, building community resilience, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, impact assessment, and geospatial analysis. He believes all of these should be on the table of discussion together when people talk about the disaster and/or environmental management and/or sustainable development goals (SDGs) on a broader scale.

PostGraduate Topic

Climate/environment-induced migration is one of the most growing challenges of 21st century across the world and has substantial impacts on the livelihoods of people. Rajan believes that ensuring livelihoods security of climate/environmental migrants is a global responsibility. Therefore, he is aiming to develop a sustainable livelihoods framework for climate migrants in his doctoral research.
