Research focus
The main research interests of the physiology team include investigation of pressure/volume control in both health and disease by understanding the integration of:
- Cardiovascular
- Endocrine
- Renal function
Particular emphasis is placed on the study of key vasoactive hormones (including the natriuretic peptides, adrenomedullins, urocortins and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system) with respect to:
- Their role in the pathophysiology of circulatory disease, particularly heart failure and myocardial infarction, and;
- Ways of manipulating these underlying systems in order to prevent and treat these diseases.
