A decision was made early to offer the 2020 Bioengineering Showcase as a hybrid-platform event with physical venues in Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington, and including virtual participation using Zoom. The current covid-19 situation has invited innovative adaptation from us all!
The novel format was very successful, attracting over 120 participants over the two days it was held in November.
There were over 27 presentations from senior researchers, early- and mid-career researchers, and PhD candidates, as well as a cross-site poster competition, all showcasing Bioengineering at the University of Otago.
Cash prizes for best presentations and posters were supplied by Millenium Science Pty Ltd who helped sponsor the showcase. Millenium maintained a presence at the Dunedin venue and demonstrated the Allevi 1 3D bioprinter over Zoom.
Congratulations to our prize winners:
- Gabriella Lindberg (best oral presentation by an EMCR)
- Josephine Shum (best oral presentation by a PhD candidate)
- Jasmine Hwang (best poster - Dunedin)
- Cesar Alcala (best poster - Christchurch)
The showcase was recorded so that footage of select presentations will be released over 2020 and 2021 – stay tuned for some interesting content to come.
And a brand new marketing video about Bioengineering at Otago made its debut at the event, which will continue to promote our theme's endeavours and aid our outreach to potential new students and researchers.
Thanks to all of our participants for making this another successful showcase.
