The Health Research Council this week announced its programme and project grant recipients. Congratulations to Dr Khoon Lim who was awarded a project grant.
His project will focus on a novel technology to restore blood supply to dying bone. A number of situations such as alcohol abuse, cancer radiation therapies, and trauma can disrupt blood supply to bones. There are currently few treatments for this – the most common solution being a hip replacement.
Khoon's study could reduce the need for surgical intervention and minimise pain for many New Zealanders.
