Overview
Prediabetes affects 26 per cent of the adult population in New Zealand and is a risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes (T2D), cardiovascular disease and the microvascular complications associated with diabetes. Lifestyle modification and weight loss in those who are overweight can prevent or delay progression to T2D.
A recently completed study – the Prediabetes Intervention Package (PIP) in primary care study, was designed to be a pragmatic primary care nurse delivered approach to dietary advice for overweight and obese patients with prediabetes that could be adapted to each individual's circumstances.
One of the measures included in this 'real world' study was the EQ-5D, a generic health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measure. Previous research has examined HRQoL in patients with diabetes but not in patients with prediabetes who have participated in a lifestyle intervention in New Zealand.
This project involves describing the HRQoL of the 359 participants who took part in the study and analysing these data alongside the semi-structured interviews of 58 participants.
