Krista Dawson is currently investigating the role of microplastics as a potential driver of colorectal carcinogenesis. Her research focuses on understanding how environmental factors influence host pathogen interactions and bacterial virulence in the context of colorectal cancer (CRC). She has a particular interest in how these factors may contribute to the disruption of the colonic mucus barrier, a critical component in maintaining intestinal health.
Krista completed her PhD at the University of Otago, where she explored the dietary regulation of the colonic mucus barrier and its implications for both health and disease, under the guidance of Associate Professor Jacqueline Keenan and Professor Andrew Day. Prior to her doctoral studies, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology, as well as a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences with Honours.
