New international PhD students
International students will have been contacted prior to arrival regarding meeting with the Manager, Academic Programmes, to arrange enrolment.
Documents to bring to this initial meeting:
- Passport/visa
- a passport-size photo
The meeting will cover:
- Witnessing of passport documents
- Finalising enrolment
- Bank Account letter/accommodation confirmation
- Scholarship payment form
- University of Otago ID card
- Student Insurance
- Student Services Fee
- Liaising with supervising department
- Mobile phone / Metro information / Christchurch map / liaison with other students from same country / student workshops information / PSOC brochure / library information
Further information for international students
New domestic PhD students
Prior to commencement date, new domestic PhD candidates should meet with the Manager, Academic Programmes.
The meeting will cover:
- Enrolment
- Scholarship payment form
- University of Otago ID card – need a passport-size photo and driver's licence
- Any other administrative matters
For all new PhD students
Your supervising department is responsible for:
- Providing you with a study space
- Organising a computer and appropriate software
- Laboratory induction if applicable
- Security access card
- Informing you of their departmental policy relating to thesis expenses
