A university entrance qualification is essential for admission to the University of Otago for all types of programmes. You must also be at least 16 years of age by the first day of classes in your period of study and meet English language requirements.
The information below applies to domestic students applying for study at a New Zealand university for the first time.
You can be classified as a domestic student if you are:
- A New Zealand citizen (including citizens of the Cook Islands, Tokelau, and Niue), or
- A holder of a New Zealand residence class visa granted under the Immigration Act 2009, residing and studying in New Zealand, or
- An Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia, resident and studying in New Zealand
