Information

The WHAI Physics scholarship is offered through the Māori Health Workforce Development Unit at the University of Otago. The scholarship supports Māori students to prepare for the PHSI 191 Biological Physics paper, as part of Health Sciences First Year (HSFY).

Designed to support Māori students interested in a career in health, the WHAI Physics Scholarship provides access to the JumpSTART Physics programme, as well as continuous support through the PHSI 191 paper and HSFY.

Eligibility criteria

Successful applicants must:

  • Have Māori whakapapa
  • Show a commitment to pursue Health Sciences study and a career in health
  • Have met the entry requirements for the University of Otago JumpSTART Physics course

Application process

Every applicant must:

  • Submit the official application form by the specified due date
  • Submit a separate application to study the JumpSTART Physics programme
  • Enrol in Health Sciences First Year (HSFY)

Scholarship detail

The following information applies to this Scholarship, subject to the specific provisions of the offer letter for the recipient:

  • Tuition fees for the University of Otago JumpSTART Physics programme
  • Residential college accommodation for the duration of the JumpSTART course (3 weeks)
  • Additional resources, tutorials and academic support throughout enrolment in PHSI 191
  • WHAI Physics Scholarship recipients will be required to attend a mihi whakatau in recognition on their award
  • WHAI Physics scholarship staff will meet with individual recipients at key points throughout the semester to provide support where needed. Recipients are expected to engage with the additional academic support provided as a condition of this scholarship, and remain enrolled in PHSI 191
