The Bachelor of Commerce with Honours (BCom(Hons)) degree is a postgraduate programme which can be taken by meritorious students. The degree involves intensive study, culminating with the completion of a research dissertation.
To be admitted, students must have completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in the subject or subjects of study proposed, with an average grade of at least B+ for the appropriate 300-level papers. In most cases, specific papers must have been passed as part of or in addition to the major subject requirements in the BCom programme. The Honours programme must be completed in one year of full-time study.
A student with an Honours degree in one subject may take a second Honours degree in a different subject, and Combined Honours programmes (including papers from two subjects) are also possible.

Regulations for the Degree of Bachelor of Commerce with Honours (BCom(Hons))
Admission to the Programme
Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce).
Every applicant shall have fulfilled one of the following conditions:
have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Commerce majoring in the subject or subjects of study proposed with an average grade of B+ for the best four 300-level papers that can count towards the major subject requirements;
have been admitted with the status of one who is entitled to proceed to the degree;
have a qualification acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce) and produce evidence acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce) of ability to proceed to the degree.
Subjects of Study
The degree may be awarded in any one of the subjects listed above or in an approved combination of the subjects listed above (Combined Honours).
Structure of the Programme
Every programme of study shall satisfy the requirements for the subject concerned.
With the permission of the Heads of Departments concerned, a candidate may substitute a paper of another subject for one of the required papers.
A student who has obtained the degree in one subject may become a candidate for the degree in any other subject.
The research report must be submitted by 1 June or 1 November of the semester in which the degree is completed.
Prerequisites, Corequisites and Restrictions
Every programme of study shall satisfy the requirements for prerequisites, corequisites and restrictions set out in the Prescriptions (published in the Guide to Enrolment).
Duration of the Programme
A candidate shall complete the requirements for the degree in one academic year of full-time study following admission to the Honours programme.
Level of Award of the Degree
The degree may be awarded with First Class Honours, with Second Class Honours (Division I), with Second Class Honours (Division II), or with Third Class Honours.
Should a candidate fail to obtain Honours, the papers passed may be credited towards a Postgraduate Diploma.
A candidate who fails to obtain Honours may not resit all or part of the Honours programme in a subsequent year unless the Senate has determined that his or her performance in those examinations was seriously impaired.
Variations
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce) may in exceptional circumstances approve a course of study which does not comply with these regulations.
Note: The due date for applications for enrolment in the programme is 10 December. Late applications will be considered.
