Cumberland College is a community with heart and soul, a place where people matter. At Cumberland the staff will welcome you and get to know you during your year here, and aim to give you the support you need when you need it. Your academic success is our focus, but we also value your sporting, cultural and social interests.
You'll feel it when you walk through the front door - Cumberland is a friendly, vibrant residential college. We have a comprehensive academic support system, complimented by an active and varied social, sporting and cultural programme, so you can get the best out of your first year at Otago. Along with our live-in senior staff and day staff at the College, our subwardens are here to provide pastoral care and support to residents and run many of the fun events the College offers.
The academic focus
Most importantly Cumberland College provides the ideal place to be during your first year of study at the University of Otago.
We value your academic success highly and as such we give you the option of being allocated a bedroom around people doing the same course course – so if you want, you will be living and learning with people doing the same course as you. Out tutors and academic facilitators are highly performing students who are currently pursuing university study at a higher level. We offer academic mentoring through one-to-one sessions with senior members of staff and are our College Fellows are available to get to know you and support you in your academic journey.
