ORCID® (Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier) provides you, as a researcher, with a unique, 16-digit ID that you keep throughout your career to connect you with your research. Your ORCID iD can be integrated in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, and supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognised.
Registering through or linking your already existing ORCID iD to the NZ ORCID Hub enables the University of Otago to collect your verified ORCID iD and assert your affiliation with the University in your ORCID record. This helps to promote trust in the research system.
Why you should register for an ORCID iD
Your ORCID iD:
- distinguishes you and ensures your research outputs and activities are correctly attributed to you
- reliably and easily connects you with your contributions and affiliations
- reduces form-filling (enter data once, re-use it often)
- improves recognition and discoverability for you and your research outputs
- is interoperable (works with many institutions, funders, and publishers)
- is persistent (enduring)
It is also a requirement of many journal manuscript submission systems and grant application forms to include your ORCID iD.
