mountain ranges and a tear
opening up the size and shape
of Taupo
at Edgecumbe
the railway lines take a sharp
turn for the worse
the carved tree exchanges green
for seagreen
its ornate prow
climbing through wave
upon wave
of leaves
gridlines square off across the
bush townships paddocks
suitable for chess
games or cross
patchwork
we are pawns moving
two places forward and unable
to turn back
