World Diabetes Day is held every year on the 14th November. This year's theme was “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps,” focused on both reducing the risk of diabetes, and ensuring that all people who are diagnosed with diabetes have access to equitable, comprehensive, affordable and quality treatment and care.
Professor Ben Wheeler, EDOR researcher and paediatric endocrinologist, was interviewed on World Diabetes Day about his life-changing diabetes research.
Type 1 diabetes, which is the focus of Professor Wheeler's research, is an autoimmune disease. It can occur at any age, often in children, and is not preventable.
Professor Wheeler has been investigating and advocating for equitable access to new technologies that can support the management of type 1 diabetes, especially for children and youth.
