Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research, in conjunction with the Centre for Translational Research in Chronic Diseases, hosted this seminar in Dunedin on Friday, 25 March 2011. The purpose was to follow-up and maintain momentum gained from the symposium held at the end of 2010 entitled 'Who Cares About New Zealand's Waistline?'
Distinguished speakers
Members of Parliament spoke and the keynote address was given by Professor Stephan Rössner. Professor Rössner is Emeritus Professor in Health Related Behavioural Science at the Karolinska Institute, a medical university in Stockholm, Sweden. He is active at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge and is the primary investigator for several studies and clinical trials. With over 40 years of experience in the obesity field he commented on public health measures which might be expected to help reduce the obesity epidemic based on his experience in Sweden and elsewhere.
