Research excellence and innovation
Otago English has a vibrant research culture and a global reputation as a rich and supportive intellectual community for postgraduates.
The Programme has won a number of grants from the Royal Society of New Zealand's Marsden Fund, the National Endowment for the Humanities (US), and Creative New Zealand. Staff have collaborated internationally on many other grants and research networks, including the Digital Fiction International Network (Leverhulme Trust, UK) and the Centre for the History of Emotions (ARC Centre of Excellence, Australia).
Our research expertise ranges from Medieval to Modernist culture and writing pedagogy to creative-based research practice, from literary philosophy that looks back to the ancients to ecocriticism that looks to the future; from Samuel Johnson, the Romantics, and the Victorians to game studies and digital literature.
