Follow the steps below to apply for an entrance scholarship
You don't need to complete the application all at once. You can save your progress and return another time – just make sure you keep the scholarship closing dates in mind so you don't miss out.
Apply to enrol at the University of Otago
Before you can apply for scholarships, you need to complete the first stages of enrolment to the University. The information on our Apply to enrol page will guide you through the steps to create your own account in eVision – our student portal.
Once you've created your eVision account, select the Complete application button under My programmes and papers. Fill in the Personal details, Contact details, and Educational background sections. Though not part of the scholarship application itself, information you provide in these sections will be used to support your scholarship application.
Complete the scholarship application
Pulling together a few details before you start the scholarship application process will help ensure everything runs smoothly once you begin. We've put together some helpful information on our Preparing to apply page so you know exactly what to expect from the application process and what information you'll need to have ready.
When you're ready to complete the scholarship application, select the Apply now button under My scholarships and awards in the eVision portal.
Note: If you do not see the Apply now button, refer to our FAQs. If our FAQs don't help and you believe you are eligible to apply for an entrance scholarship, email entrance.scholarships@otago.ac.nz and include your Student ID number (found under "My details") in your email.
Some helpful tips to keep in mind as you progress through the scholarship application:
- Questions marked with an asterisk * are mandatory fields. You will not be able to submit your application until something is entered into these fields.
- Questions without an asterisk * are optional. You do not have to include a response to these questions if you do not wish to.
- You must save your progress on each section by clicking 'Save & Continue' or 'Save & Exit' at the bottom of the screen. If you make any changes to any section, you must save these changes as well.
- For questions that require written responses, you may wish to prepare your answers in a separate document and copy and paste them into your application to prevent any disruptions to the application process.
- You can change your answers at any time until you complete the declaration and submit your application in the last section of the application.
Read the Information section
Ensure you read and understand the important information about the scholarship application process listed in the Information section. Pay particular attention to the closing dates indicated as you will only be considered for any scholarships that are open on the date you apply.
Select Continue when you are ready to move on to the next section.
Note: The scholarships you see listed in this section of the application may differ from those pictured below.
Complete the Education section
This section relates to your New Zealand Year 12 study, which system you studied under and your results. The mandatory questions in this section must be completed by all scholarship applicants.
Complete the remaining sections that are relevant to you
The scholarship application is divided into several sections. You must answer the first question in each section. However, you only need to provide further answers in the sections that are relevant to you. We recommend you answer as many questions as possible as this gives the panel more information to consider when making their decisions.
As you progress into each new section of the application, you will have the opportunity to see all of the questions within in each section. Use this information to help determine if the section is applicable to you. For example, if you do not take part in any extra-curricular activities, the Extra-curricular activities section may not be relevant for you. Read all the questions carefully before making a decision about each section.
If you feel the questions are not relevant to you, answer 'No' to the first question in the section. The rest of the questions will disappear so you can save and move on to the next section.
If the section is relevant to you and you wish to provide answers for a particular section, answer 'Yes' to the first question in the section. Then, answer the remaining mandatory questions in the section before saving and moving on to the next section.
Review the privacy statement and submit your application
The Declaration/submit section is the final section of the scholarship application. It must be completed by all scholarship applicants. Make sure that all mandatory questions in the application have been answered and all of the sections are marked complete. You will not be able to submit your application until every section is complete.
A green checkmark indicates that the section has been completed.
A yellow circle indicates that a mandatory question has not been answered.
Return to any incomplete section and answer the remaining mandatory questions before saving and returning to the Declaration/submit section.
Ensure you read and understand the privacy statement before completing the declaration. Once that is done, select the Submit button.
A confirmation message will appear indicating that your application has been successfully submitted. The message will also indicate when you can expect to hear the results of your application. You can monitor the status of your application in the My Scholarships and Awards section of your eVision portal.
Referee changes (optional)
You can change referee details up to the application closing date when our reference requests are sent out. The reference details you provided in your scholarship application will appear in the Scholarships and Awards section of your eVision student portal. Select Change details to adjust any details as required. If you do not see the referee details listed in your portal, this means that our reference requests have been sent out and it is too late to make any adjustments.
