In July 2004 a new X'Pert PRO X-ray diffractometer was delivered an installed into the x-ray laboratory on the first floor of the Geology building.

The total weight of the system was ca. 1.5 tonnes and was lifted from the delivery truck onto temporary scaffolding erected outside the building. The window and surround needed to be removed and the replaced once the diffractometer was in place on steel plates in the laboratory.
