Mining for Meaning: the Geoethics of Extractive Industries
An Otago Geology seminar by Dr Katie Dawson, University of Huddersfield
In this talk, Katie traces her research trajectory from sand, to Geoethics to geontopower, providing insight into the specific contours of the project 'Mining for Meaning: the Geoethics of Extractive Industries', which brings geologists and geographers from the University of Huddersfield, Otago University and Witwatersand University into interdisciplinary conversation around the ethics and mining.
Sharing some of the findings and questions emerging from the research thus far, Katie will end with an open call to consider what Elizabeth Povinelli's concept of 'Geontopower' might offer for future thinking.
