Inhalable spray dried powders for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis

"Current TB therapies using conventional routes of administration (oral and parenteral routes) are based on high and frequent dosages to maintain the drug therapeutic concentration in the infection site (granulomas) in the lungs. Contrary to these, alternative therapies such as pulmonary drug delivery systems are required to deliver anti-tubercular drugs locally to the lungs.

"Our research is focused on developing slow dissolving drug micro-particles for pulmonary tuberculosis to maximize the drug concentration in alveolar macrophages by achieving the optimum balance between dissolution and phagocytosis. Moreover, we are developing a new in vitro dissolution apparatus for inhalable dry powder particles which simulates the both dissolution and absorption process at the same time."
