Professional doctorates normally involve a combination of coursework and research. They are targeted at professional practitioners who are seeking a higher degree, so they are strongly related to professional practice.
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is a doctoral level degree designed for business professionals who are looking for a challenge. The programme is three years of full-time study which includes an initial year consisting of six taught papers followed by two thesis years. Papers are block taught one at a time with each block consisting of eight weeks of on-line teaching plus a four day on-campus series of workshops.
Entry Requirements
- Every applicant must either
- be a graduate with a bachelor's honours degree and a postgraduate diploma, or a master's degree in a business discipline, or
- in exceptional cases, have alternative equivalent qualifications acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce)
- Candidates will be selected on the basis of their previous academic record (normally with a grade average of at least B+), their graduate experience and academic achievements, their commitment to the field of business, evidence that they are committed to ongoing education, and reports from three referees.
- Every applicant will normally have at least ten years of experience as a professional in business and demonstrate evidence of leadership in their field.
Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent)
Gain graduate training in ten disciplines in dentistry and prepare to become a registered specialist in your chosen discipline. Undertake clinical research and clinical practice and present your research in a thesis that demonstrates a significant contribution to your particular field.

Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA)
Embark on a three-year, full-time programme in Music with a choice of three areas of specialisation: Performance, Composition, or Studio Production. Develop your skills to the highest artistic and professional levels, and demonstrate mastery in your area of specialisation.
