Personal protective equipment (PPE) should only be used to minimise exposure to a hazard as a last resort, and only where other methods of control are not practicable.
PPE can also be used to increase the protection in addition to other methods. It is the employers' responsibility to provide adequate PPE that fits the individuals concerned correctly and is available for use at all times.
Employees should know where to obtain the equipment and how to request replacements.
Examples of PPE:
- Laboratory coats/overalls.high visibility/wet weather
- Safety glasses/goggles/visors,
- Hard hats/sun hats/welding helmet
- Ear muffs/ear plugs
- Masks - disposable/standard/mechanically ventilated
- Gloves - cut resistant/chemical resistant/biological/heat resistant/non allergenic
- Safety boots
