Professor Joel Tyndall, Associate Dean (International)

Joel Tyndall imageJoel is a medicinal chemist based in the School of Pharmacy with over 20 years of research and teaching experience as an academic. Joel's research interests span the field of drug discovery in the fields of infectious and inflammatory diseases as well as cancer with an emphasis on understanding disease and disease targets on a molecular level.

He has recently held the position of the School's Associate Dean Internationalisation. He has been a member of the Health Sciences Internationalisation Committee since its inception and has been active in establishing and maintaining fruitful international collaborations, including the development of articulation agreements with universities in South East Asia.

Internationalisation of the Division is an important focus for us all, and Joel will play a key role in encouraging all areas of Health Sciences to enhance their commitment to internationalising teaching, research and service.

Dr Jackie Tagg, Professional Practice FellowJackie Tagg image

Jackie  has a background in tertiary education, specialising in teaching English and academic skills to international students. Her PhD explored the advantages of EAP bridging programs for EAL international students. Currently, she is involved in a research project investigating how cultural backgrounds of university teaching staff and postgraduate students might influence their well-being, teaching and learning experiences in a Western university context.

Jackie’s role covers a number of areas in the Divisional Office: she supports the Director Health Sciences First Year, is the Division's International Advisor; provides language and cultural guidance for students for whom English is an additional language; and is the representative for the Refugee Background Equity Group for the Te Kauae Parāoa policy.
