Position

Associate Deans are senior academic staff members who are highly respected in their field.  In their capacity as Associate Deans, they provide leadership in a variety of management and/or administrative roles within Schools and/or Divisions.

Associate Deans may be involved in activities related to:

  • Supporting/counseling students
  • Administering student cohorts
  • Student affairs, both undergraduate and postgraduate
  • Medical education
  • Admissions/course approval
  • Clinical studies
  • Supporting Māori students
  • Supporting Pacific students
  • Supporting the implementation of the Māori Strategic Framework
  • Facilitating Pacific strategy
  • Supporting and developing strategies to enhance research capacity
  • Promoting commercialisation of research
  • Undertaking leadership role in academic management

Expectations

Service to the University and the community

It is expected that Associate Deans:

  1. contribute to the administration in the School and/or Division and the University.

It is expected that Associate Deans may be:

  1. representing the School and/or Division externally through contributions to committees, working parties etc. within the Division
  2. representing the School and/or Division through contributions to committees, working parties etc within the Division, or the wider University (including the Māori Strategic Framework)
  3. sharing knowledge with the community outside the University and contributing to local and national communities through involvement in the development of policy, practice, and cultural activities (eg: iwi/Māori development)
  4. contributing to the research environment
  5. contributing to the profession/discipline

Other

It is expected that Associate Deans:

  1. meet all compliance and reporting requirements
  2. work collegially with staff and students in the Department, School and Division
