Position
College of Education (COE) Lecturers are persons of high standing in the education profession and typically are teaching across a range of courses to postgraduate level. This includes assessment and course administration duties, and they will usually have a leadership role in the administration of a programme. Lecturers (COE) may have significant course administration responsibilities including curriculum design. COE Lecturers carry out activities to maintain and develop their scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.
COE Lecturers play a major role in professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.
Expectations
Teaching, assessment and curriculum development
It is expected that Lecturers (COE):
- conduct research-informed teaching across a range and level of courses in accordance with their share of the Department or School's teaching programme
- teach to a standard which meets the quality standards expected in the Department/School and profession/discipline
It is expected that Lecturers (COE) may be:
- preparing course plans, outlines and materials for delivery of classes assigned, in consultation with other senior colleagues
- facilitating learning by presenting lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and papers
- developing assessment material related to courses taught
- providing assessment and feedback to students on their progress towards learning outcomes
- fostering the development of individual student talent
- implementing innovations in teaching, assessment and curriculum development
- providing course advice
- acting as the convenor of one or more papers
- carrying out practical teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching workshops either in small groups or one-on-one to facilitate the learning of practical/technical skills
- providing practical professional supervision in classrooms in schools
Research and/or advancing professional practice and scholarship activities
It is expected that Lecturers (COE):
- advance knowledge and professional practice and/or produce quality assured publications within their field or discipline either individually or as part of a group
It is expected that Lecturers (COE) may be:
- obtaining research funding
- attending and presenting papers at professional conferences both nationally and internationally
- taking part in effective research collaborations
Service to the University and the community
It is expected that Lecturers (COE):
- contribute to the administration of the College of Education
It is expected that Lecturers (COE) may be:
- representing the College of Education through contributions to committees, working parties etc within the Division, or the wider University (including the Māori Strategic Framework)
- sharing knowledge with the community outside the University and contributing to local and national communities through involvement in the development of policy, practice, and cultural activities (eg: iwi/Māori development)
- contributing to the profession/discipline.
Other
It is expected that Lecturers (COE):
- take an active interest in the activities relating to the Department;
- meet all compliance and reporting requirements;
- work collegially with staff and students in the College, Division and the University.

Salary progressions
