Position
A Postdoctoral Fellowship provides the opportunity for emerging researchers, following the completion of their degree, to gain further experience under the supervision of an established researcher prior to embarking on a fully independent academic career.
Postdoctoral Fellows carry out semi-independent research and must have completed the requirements for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, or its equivalent, before taking up the appointment. They will publish the results of their work and present to peers
Expectations
Teaching, assessment and curriculum development
Postdoctoral Fellows may assist with teaching for personal development, as agreed with their Principal Investigators and Heads of Department.
Research and scholarship activities
It is expected that Postdoctoral Fellows may be:
- involved in significant research or scholarship
- publishing the results of research or scholarship which were obtained during the period of appointment
- producing significant research outputs each year
- independently responsible for their research project under the oversight provided by the supervisor
- pro-active in pursuing research funding opportunities (including grants from industry), in collaboration and in support of both their own and their colleagues' research aims
- contributing to the commercialisation of research (new intellectual property, products and services; knowledge-transfer)
Service to the University and the community
It is expected that, depending on the Department, Postdoctoral Fellows may be:
- contributing to administration in their Department or School
- contributing to the research environment
- sharing knowledge with and contributing to the community.
Other
It is expected that Postdoctoral Fellows:
- take an active interest in the activities of the Department
- meet all compliance and reporting requirements
- work collegially with staff and students in the Department.
Professional Practice is not expected.
Employment Conditions
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent doctorate in appropriate field.
- Experience in relevant research techniques and statistical analysis.
- Postdoctoral Fellows are supervised by senior researchers
Authority to appoint
Appointment is approved by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Dean in the Division of Health Sciences).
