Do I need a Credentials Evaluation?

If your qualifications are NOT from a country listed below or are NOT from an institution with which the University of Otago has a Student Exchange agreement, you will need to provide an Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) report as well as certified or original transcripts for all your previous university study.

Qualifications from the following countries are exempt from the ECE report requirement:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus

  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany

The ECE report is an important part of the admission process and helps  to ensure that the University is admitting suitably qualified  candidates. The application form can be downloaded from the ECE website at http://www.ece.org/ECE applications should be submitted to ECE directly.

You are required to request and pay for the course by course evaluation option, with both you and Otago each receiving a copy of the report.

Please note that your application for admission to Otago cannot be processed until the evaluation report is received.

Students who lodge their applications through a University of Otago approved agent may be eligible for an exemption from the ECE requirement.

If your qualifications are from more than one country, and the country where the highest (usually most recent) qualification was taken is on the above 'exemption' list an ECE report will not usually be required.

If the academic information you provide is deemed to be insufficient for admission purposes, the University reserves the right to request an ECE report.
