Overview
New Zealand has one of the highest incidences of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the world. Currently, IBD can only be managed but not cured. The exact aetiology and pathologic events that drive chronic inflammation in IBD are currently unknown.
In our previous study, we found that UC patients with progressive disease had a higher expression of Δ133p53 in the inflamed bowel. In this project, we intend to find out the correlation between Δ133TP53 expression and IBD progression towards CRC, using human samples.
IThis project is suitable for postgraduate students who have a solid background in immunology and gut inflammation. Students with research experience in ddPCR, tissue digestion, laboratory mouse handling, multi-colour flow cytometric analysis and histological analysis are desired.
Depending on the student’s performance and the availability of research funding, this project could potentially be continued for a PhD degree.
Previous experience in laboratory mouse handling is essential for a MSc and PhD degree.
