Overview
I am seeking a Masters or PhD student to substantially update the chronology of the upper Clutha River terraces. These spectacular fluvioglacial terraces run along the base of the Pisa Range in Central Otago, and are variably displaced by the Pisa Fault. The terrace ages remain largely unconstrained, as does the earthquake recurrence of the Pisa Fault. Dating techniques like cosmogenics, OSL and AMS radiocarbon now provide the ability to constrain the terrace chronology and activity of the Pisa Fault.
The candidate would have to be competitive for a University of Otago scholarship if stipend and tuition support were required.
