The HCS High Speed Data Transfer service is a joint research partnership between:
- Information Technology Services
- New Zealand eScience Infrastructure New Zealand (NeSI), and the
- Research and Education Advanced Network New Zealand (REANNZ).
What the HCS High Speed Data Transfer service offers
Researchers who store data on the ITS high capacity storage (HCS) service can securely transfer large research data sets at the highest available network speeds to NeSI high performance computing facilities around New Zealand and to other research facilities around the world.
The service is available to all current research staff and postgraduate students on the three main University of Otago campuses (Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin). Researchers can use their HCS share directories as both the data transfer source or destination.
Speeds of up to 5 Gigabits per second have been achieved in transferring data to remote sites. However, the speed at which data is transferred will always depend where the data is going to/coming from, the networks used and how well the remote infrastructure performs.
Joint Support
ITS works with NeSI and REANNZ staff to support this service so may be required to share support-related information regarding your data transfers if necessary.
