Staff can use both wired and wireless internet access on-campus at the University of Otago.
Staff wired network access
- If your department has been moved onto the new University of Otago network (the "Future Network"), you do not need to register your computer or similar device (such as a smartphone, iTouch, or iPad). You can log into the network using your University username and password
- If your department is on the older University network (the "Current State Network"), you will need to register your computer or device with ITS. Once registered, you can get wired access to the UO-STAFF network on campus by plugging your computer/device into an active network outlet
Staff wireless network access
- If your department has been moved onto the new University of Otago network (the "Future Network"), you do not need to register your laptop or other device. You can access the UO_WIFI wireless network using your University of Otago username and password
- If your department is on the older University network (the "Current State Network") your laptop or other device will need to be registered with ITS before you can connect to the UO-STAFF network wirelessly on campus
Postgraduate students who wish to have wireless access to the UO-STAFF network will first need permission from their departmental administration.
Registering for staff network access
If your department has been moved onto the new University of Otago network (the "Future Network"), you do not need to register your computer/device.
If your department is on the older University network (the "Current State Network"), you can arrange to have your computer/device registered to use the network by either:
- talking to your departmental IT support person (check with department administration if you do not know who that is), or
- contacting AskOtago with the following information:
- the Ethernet address of your device (this can be either the wired or wireless Ethernet address depending on whether you need access to the wired or wireless service).
- which network you will need to connect to, i.e. UO-STAFF or UO-EXTERNAL
- which locations you will need access for as UO-STAFF registrations are campus-specific, i.e. Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and/or Invercargill
- a description of your device so it can be identified easily on the network, e.g. Joe Bloggs iPhone 6S S/N:GLX546LP
- your departmental GL10 account code
Please contact AskOtago if you need further help or information about registering your computer/device on the University of Otago networks.
