Tara McLeod
Letterpress Typography
Auckland: The Pear Tree Press, 2003. Stk. Z 250
M451.
Letterpress Typography is another example of typographic wizardry from
McLeod. Adamantly against technology (he was a graphic designer
but left the industry when computers came along), he has chosen
texts that reflect the craft of books, and what technology can (or
can’t do) in the making of books and printing. ‘These
books reflect modern (post 1950) typographic design principles.
Though experimental, they are fairly simple exercises in hand type-setting
& would have been within the capabilities of most New Zealand
letterpress printers.’ Here he shouts: ‘The
Book is Dead. Long live the Book.’ |
