Cabinet 1: Religious Works
The Gutenburg Bible holds an iconic status in the history of the book, as the first major book printed with a moveable type printing press. Its place as an example of authorship, however, is more contested. Bibles are not generally known for their authors, although we know that the books of the Bible were authored by many different individuals. Rather, the Bible is an example of a work where we tend to set aside authorial attribution.
