The House of Elrig is an autobiography of childhood and adolescence by Gavin Maxwell (1914-1969), the author of the very successful Ring Of Bright Water. Maxwell was also a painter and a poet. He designed the jacket for his book, using an illustration of the family home in Elrig, near Wigtown, on the moorlands of Galloway, Scotland.
