Prolific writer Sax Rohmer denied that his story Dope was based on the death of Billie Carleton, a London showgirl, who died in her hotel room of a drug overdose on the night of the Armistice Victory Celebration. He claims the story was ‘on the stocks' before the case became public. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful book jacket.
