Cabinet 17: Westerns: The Gals

While pulp writers sat in Sydney offices punching out tales of the West, the Australian pulp publishers were still reliant on stories that were written in the States. In 1938, American Peter B. Germano wrote his first successful western, and continued writing under the names of Barry Cord and Jackson Cole. Ex-marine and Nebraska-born G. W. Barrington wrote historical fiction and westerns such as The Badlands.
Bob Obets and Bob Odets wrote westerns like Senorita Spitfire Runs Her Guns! and Come and Get Me, Ranger! Malian Press reprinted these stories, unconcerned about the fact that Odets appears on the cover of Sweeping Leather while Obets is on the title-page. Like other publishers, their position was to get the stories printed, distributed, and sold.
