Travels in Oceania
In May 1991, the Publications Committee (Professors Olssen, Chadwick, Gibson, and Petersen, Barbara Larson, Michael Wooliscroft, the University Librarian) and Helen Watson White met to consider thirteen book proposals. The titles included Rae’s Old and New in Karo Religion, Bell’s Image and Meaning in Recent New Zealand Art, Fergusson’s From Birth to Ten Years, Harraway’s Statistical Methods, Trotter’s Major Richardson, and Christine Mortelier’s translation and editing of Dr Louis Thiercelin’s Journal d’un baleinier, first published in Paris in 1866. Again UOP scored a coup by publishing the first English translation of this latter work.
Dr Louis Thiercelin, Travels in Oceania. Memoirs of a Whaling Ship’s Doctor, 1866 (1995).
