Introduction to Ophthalmology
John Parr's text book on ophthalmology (the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomy, functions, pathology, and treatment of the eye) went through three editions and was a sales success for the Press. As was usual when submitted (in May 1973), two readers were contacted to make comment on the text and illustrations (by Bruce Irwin). In October 1974, a contract was signed with the agreement that the 1,000 copies had to be ready for student sales at the beginning of 1976. What pleased McEldowney and Brian Turner, at McIndoe, was that Parr's book was eventually taken up by Oxford University Press and sold extensively throughout Europe and Africa.
