The Hocken Library is the University's archival repository. Our holdings include the older corporate records of the Registry, and many records and archives of departments, schools, prominent academics, students and other units of the University.
Access to University records
In some circumstances researchers must gain the permission of the University Registrar prior to being able to use records. Restrictions apply mainly to sensitive records relating to University staff and students. The Access Framework for University of Otago records gives details of the restrictions and which records they apply to.
Deposits of University archives
If you are a University staff member and have records that you think should be transferred to the Hocken for permanent preservation please contact the Curator of Archives and Manuscripts for advice.
