Research summary

My research highlights the importance of collaboration and partners' commitment in the internationalisation process of small firms. I investigate how small firms in New Zealand utilise both heuristics and rational decision-making to enter foreign markets as a collective effort. Real options theory provides a rational pathway for internationalisation, while effectual heuristics rely on the logic of control and utilise available means and partnerships to create informal real options. Exploring how small firms develop their own foreign market entry options can add insights into how internationalising small firms overcome challenges and develop successful foreign market entry strategies.
