The OUMSAA Executive was delighted to take the opportunity to support the painting of Professor Peter Crampton’s portrait, on the occasion of his relinquishing his role as Dean of the Otago Medical School.

This was recognised as a very important contribution to the School.

The portraits of our past Deans in our lecture theatres are guardians of our future. They remind us of our values and traditions. They preside over continued excellence in our scholarship. Their presence underscores the phenomenal development in Medicine, and the aura of each emphasises each individual’s legacy in leadership and development that they generously gave to the School. They are a gathering of hugely impressive people, and their gaze connects ongoing cohorts of medical students to role models they can aspire to.

Peter Crampton has truly earned his place in that gallery. We thank him for his contribution and for his support of the Alumni Association during his tenure.

November 2012

The Class of 1979 Undergraduate Medical Scholarship was established in 2005 by members of the MB ChB Class of 1979.

One or two scholarships are awarded annually to a second or third year (Early Learning Medicine) medical student.

The inaugural award was made in 2009.

Financial difficulty or hardship which may limit the student's ability to otherwise complete the medical course is the primary criterion by which recipients are selected, in conjunction with academic ability and personality.
